Features / Title, tenure and lease

See how long is left on the lease before you lend.

A short lease can sink a loan. Search by postcode, address or title number and the report tells you the tenure, the title number and, for a leasehold, how many years are left and what the lease says, before you instruct a valuation or a solicitor.

HM Land Registry Registered Leases and company-owned property data. Ownership shows only when a company owns the freehold or the lease; for people, the owner is on the title register.

What you see

  • Title number and tenure

The title number for the property and whether it is freehold or leasehold, from HM Land Registry. Copy the title number straight into an official copy order.

  • Lease term left

Years left, the original term, the start and end dates and the date the lease was signed, from HM Land Registry's registered leases. Short leases are flagged.

  • Flat to building

For a flat, the lease title links to the building's freehold title, so you see both at once. The alienation clause shows whether the lease limits selling, subletting or sharing.

Where the data comes from

HM Land Registry title data and Registered Leases. Lease terms are copied from the lease as registered.

Limits

Lease details show where available, for leases in HM Land Registry's registered leases data. Always check the register before relying on a term. This is not an official copy.
